THE International Medical Missionary Africa Society (IMMAS) has launched the Treatment Action Support Initiative (TASI) to support health delivery efforts using traditional medicines.
TASI is a wellness management programme, covering education, prevention, infection control, and pandemic response. IMMAS director, Zakeyo Chirume, noted that traditional medical practitioners should quickly and positively respond to pandemics and support Government’s efforts in all health challenges.
TASI aims to facilitate the mobilisation of medication to reach less privileged people. The group will launch a free medical outreach programme in September for seniors, including war veterans.
“As traditional medical practitioners, we need to respond quickly and positively when it comes to pandemics.
“We are there to support the government in all health challenges that the country might face.
“TASI is a program which will facilitate mobilisation of medication so that it reaches less privileged people.
“Very soon, we are going to launch a program which is a healthcare service delivery free of charge, in September to all geriatrics who include war veterans,” said Chirume.
Traditional Medical Practitioners’ Council acting registrar, Givemore Kanda, emphasised the importance of increased use of traditional medicines, noting that they are effective at addressing illness and could also help reduce the country’s import bill on medicines.
“TASI is a well-designed total wellness management initiative which will cover education, prevention, infection control and pandemic response.
“Covid-19 was an eye opener as we saw that some traditional medicines work.
“By so doing, we save foreign currency,” he said.
