Tragedy strikes Lupane village: Man dies following attack while seeking justice for slain father

Chronicle Reporter

In a devastating turn of events in Shabula village, Lupane, Matabeleland North province, the community mourns the loss of Sam Mathe, who tragically passed away after a brutal attack.

This incident comes in the wake of the suspicious death of his father, Thomas Wamundila Mathe, a prominent Citizens Coalition for Change activist who was killed in a suspected case of arson last November.

According to a close family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Sam had been deeply troubled by the lack of progress in the investigation into his father’s death.

Seeking answers and justice, he bravely ventured back to the village to enquire about the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident that claimed his father’s life.

Additionally, Sam aimed to conduct his own investigations and oversee their late father’s property, as the family had been forced to abandon their homestead following the arson attack.

Tragically, while enquiring around the village and pushing for answers, Sam encountered unknown assailants who reportedly warned him to cease his activities.

“Despite his valiant efforts to seek truth and justice for his father, Sam was ruthlessly attacked and left with fatal internal injuries and bleeding. The heart-wrenching outcome of this violent encounter has left us as a family reeling in shock and grief.

“Just a few months after burying Thomas, we now have to busy Sam, it is sad and we honestly feel unsafe because we do not know who will be attacked next. By talking with you right now I do not even know whether I am safe or I will be the next victim,” said the relative.

As the village mourns the loss of both Thomas and now Sam Mathe, questions loom over the disturbing circumstances surrounding these tragedies. The need for a thorough investigation into the deaths of these two individuals, who stood for justice and activism, remains a pressing concern for the community of Shabula and beyond.
