A FISHMONGER operating at Damview in Chitungwiza was allegedly killed following a dispute with a colleague over fishing nets.

The accused, Stanley Dhlamini Tutani of Chamboko, Gletwin, has been charged with murder.

Tutani appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Ruth Moyo, who remanded him in custody until January 13 and told him only the High Court could grant bail as he was facing a third-schedule offence.

The court heard that earlier this month, the now-deceased Lucent Vincent Muzari, who lived in the same area as Tutani, accused him of stealing his fishing nets.

On December 28, Muzari and the informant, Brian Machazani, went fishing at Damview Dam. Upon arrival, they saw Tutani and his friend, known as Kheda, appearing to have just finished fishing.

Muzari left Machazani and confronted Tutani about the stolen nets and why they were fishing within his territory. A fight broke out between the two, leading Muzari to call for Machazani’s help.

When Machazani rushed to the scene, he saw Muzari on top of Tutani, grabbing his neck and shouting, “Une nharo here?” (“Are you being stubborn?”).

Tutani managed to overturn Muzari, and the fight continued, with both men pushing each other into the water.

Muzari later died by the roadside on his way  home.
