Train, commuter omnibus collide in Mahatshula.

THREE pupils were lucky to escape without any visible injuries after a commuter omnibus they were travelling with from Mahatshula suburb in Bulawayo to the Central Business District was struck by a train at a railway crossing located in the suburb.

A vendor who declined to be named said the accident occurred around 7am when a speeding commuter omnibus driver attempted to beat the train at the intersection, but unfortunately collided with it.

She said the injured were taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for medical attention.

“The students appeared to have escaped physical harm, although they may have sustained minor internal injuries and the driver was suffering a fractured leg,” she added.
