GOVERNMENT has introduced the National Health Service Training and Induction Modules for healthcare workers to equip them with correct standard operating procedures in discharging their duties.

The programme will also help to improve their management skills and instil a sense of patriotism.

The modules will cover areas which are essential for health personnel to execute their duties focusing on public health service orientation, which will include issues to do with national heritage and patriotism, Vision 2030 and legal/policy framework governing the health sector.

In her post Cabinet briefing yesterday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the modules will also include management skills development to include such areas as transformational leadership, finance management, corporate governance, conflict management and tailor-made courses focusing on gender, diversity and sexual harassment.

“Cabinet considered and approved the proposed introduction of the National Health Service Training and Induction Modules under the Public Service Academy as presented by the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Honourable Professor Paul Mavima as chairperson of the Inter-Ministerial Committee,” she said.

Minister Mutsvangwa said at its 28th meeting, Cabinet agreed that the National Health Service Training and Induction be developed. It is in line with this directive that the modules will be introduced.

“The envisaged training programmes will therefore equip healthcare workers with correct standard operating procedures in the discharge of their duties, improved and efficient management skills, and patriotism that promote transparency, accountability and good governance and a high-performance work culture that goes beyond the call of duty,” she said.

“In more detail, the modules will cover the following areas that are essential for health personnel to execute their duties: public health service orientation to include areas on national heritage and patriotism, Vision 2030, legal/policy framework governing the health sector.”

In April, Government approved the re-establishment of the National Youth Service Programme designed to instil in young Zimbabweans between the ages of 18 and 35 years, a sense of national identity and patriotism as well as equipping them with survival skills through honesty and hard work. – @mashnets
