THE Government, through the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, has urged Transmedia Corporation to take advantage of opportunities presented by technological convergence to expand its revenue streams.
Transmedia Corporation was established to provide radio and television signal distribution services.
This contributed to lowering entry barriers for broadcasters, enabling them to concentrate on content development as the Government opened up the airwaves.
Due to a financially restrictive operating environment, the agency has faced challenges in implementing its projects.
At Transmedia Corporation’s annual general meeting held on Friday, the ministry laid out its plans for 2025 and encouraged Transmedia to explore pathways for alternative revenue.
Speaking on behalf of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Jenfan Muswere, chief director in the ministry Mr Jonathan Gandari implored Transmedia to think and act differently to raise resources needed to fulfil its mandate.
The ministry’s plans include raising money through the sale of spectrum, targeting to complete the second phase of the Zim Digital programme within 24 months. Aligning with the national vision of devolution, the ministry also said it intended to add district information officers to reduce workload in various districts covered by the agency.
This would require resources such as vehicles and other tools for the district information officers to be capacitated.
Further, the ministry announced its desire to establish media centres, with Transmedia expected to play an important role of providing transmission.
