TREK FC have been around for a decade and transformed themselves into one of the biggest social football clubs in Harare.
The team is fully sponsored by the petroleum company and is made up of Trek workers only.
One of the club’s senior players, Tafara Chipando, who plays as a centre-back, said social football has given them a platform to socialise.
“Playing football, as a company team, helps us a lot. “We meet new people in every game we play.
“You get time to interact and learn new stuff from others.
“Our organisation is quite big and we have a lot of workers who work in different departments, so we also get to know each other better and learn about functions of the various departments in the company,” he said.
“Our work routine is one week in and one week off. “Players only come and play when they are off work,” he said.
Trek play their games during weekends, depending on the availability of grounds.
“We play on Saturdays or Sundays, depending on the availability of grounds.
“Sometimes grounds will be overbooked.
“We have a team representative in the group, who is responsible for organising games for the team,” he said.
Chipando said OH Legends are their most difficult opponents in the social league.
“We have found it difficult playing OH Legends.
“They give us a difficult time, but we are now adopting a new way of playing them.
“They handed us our biggest defeat by beating us 9-3, after the resumption of sporting activities, when Covid-19 restrictions were eased.
“But, we are ready to face them once again next weekend.
“I bet we are going to give them a difficult time and make them taste their own medicine.
“We are aiming for a big win since this is the return match, “ he said.
