SOUTH Africa-based jazz crooner, Edgar Muzah, says he is humbled to be nominated for the African Muzik Magazine Awards AFRIMMA.
The awards ceremony will be held on November 19 in the United States.
Muzah is the only male Zimbabwean artist nominated in the Best Male Southern Africa category.
The artist is up against seven musicians, four from South Africa, two from Zambia and Mozambique.
Muzah, who describes his genre as world music, told H-Metro it was a beautiful surprise that his stuff was being recognised among the best artists in Africa.
“The nomination came as a beautiful surprise for me, it is the most prestigious awards ceremony in the world, especially to those who celebrate African music.
“AFRIMMA is a big deal and for them to recognise my work, and for them to feel I deserve a nomination amongst some of the best artists in Africa, it is an honor.
“I realised that I am in the right direction with my work.
“I’m the only one who does unpopular music, if I should put it that way, my genre is more on world music, it’s not the music you hear every day on radio,” said Muzah.
The musician was nominated for the South African Music Awards (SAMAs) this year in August.
Muzah is also a bass player, music producer, composer and arranger.
