The trial date has been set for the 25 members of the opposition CCC party who held an unsanctioned meeting without police clearance in January in Budiriro, Harare.

Presiding magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi yesterday said the trial will commence on May 18.

Mr Mangosi also altered the accused persons’ bail conditions.

“The accused persons have demonstrated that they will not abscond. They can now report once (to police), every last Friday of the month,” he said.

Among the accused is the National Assembly Member for Mkoba constituency Amos Chibaya and Costa Machingauta, the Budirio legislator.

They are being charged with violating public order regulations by holding an illegal meeting on January 14.

They were allegedly holding the party’s presidential assembly meeting at Machingauta’s house where they were chanting some slogans.

Police were alerted to the illegal gathering and arrested the accused persons.
