Border Strikers 0-0 Triangle
RELEGATED Border Strikers put up a spirited fight to hold Triangle United to a goalless draw in a lukewarm Castle Lager Premiership match at Dulivhadzimu Stadium yesterday.
The match was played under very hot temperatures, which saw the teams taking two water breaks in both halves.
Triangle had the upper hand for the better part of the day, but were victims of poor finishing.
The visitors’ trio of Lameck Nhamo, Marvelous Mukumba and Nelson Meson took turns to miss when they had clear cut chances.
Visiting coach David Mandigora’s side made their intentions known from the onset, but couldn’t breach Border Strikers’ defence.
The hosts tried to attack from the midfield, but their efforts came to naught.
Tabwe Kalunga could have put the home team in the lead in the 30th minute and again in the 40th minute, but his shots cannoned off the upright on both occasions.
Coach Luke Masomere introduced two new strikers William Nyoni and Godfrey Mukambi for the tired duo of Tabwe Kalunga and Farai Mususunye in second half, but they failed to rise to the occasion.
Mandigora said his team could have won by a wide margin had they converted chances that came their way.
“This was a tough game. We had the upper hand, but our strike force let us down. However, a point away is better than nothing. We are going back to the drawing board so that we can improve our shortcomings,” said Mandigora.
Masomere said they had started rebuilding the team for next season in the First Division.
“We have been relegated and have started looking ahead. We are looking at a quick return to the PSL, hence we have to start rebuilding the team now,” Masomere said.
He also revealed that he was engaging his employers over his future at the Beitbridge side, as his contract ends on November 30.
