TRIBUTES continue to pour in following the death of Zim-dancehall supremo, Soul Jah Love, real name Soul Musaka.
He was 31.
Soul Jah love is reported to have been pronounced dead on admission Tuesday evening at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Waterfalls, Harare.
“He was a one of the faces of the Zim-dancehall movement. His contribution and dedication towards uplifting dancehall music was unquestionable,” said Mashasha, a Mbare-based Zim-dancehall follower-cum-promoter.
“My grieving heart still rises in pain, pride and gratitude at your contributions to the musical narrative. Not recognising you in the Zim-dancehall story shall remain a travesty.
“You travelled all musical thorny paths. Even more, you conquered in your distinct way. No musical heart ever conceived it, dared to try your lyrical path. We won’t take back the hope you have to the youths. And we shall forever cherish the memories. Rest in strong dancehall iddims my bredren (sic),” wrote Winky D on his Facebook Fan Page.
Seasoned thespian, Daniel Maphosa, also shocked with the dancehall star’s death, said: “Oh my God! That’s really bad news. The music industry has been robbed of a talented artiste.”
“Such talent! The brother was a genius. He had a way with his art and you just couldn’t ignore him,” added arts enthusiast Takemore Mazuruse.
According to a doctor’s report, the late Soul Jah Love had no pulse upon admission and his sugar level was high.
The chanter rose to prominence in 2012 with hit tracks such as “Ndini Uya Uya” and “Gum-kum”.
Mourners are gathered at his Msasa Park, Harare, home with burial arrangements yet to be made.
