I had played against Madinda and Adam Ndlovu for years when I was at Zimbabwe Saints and they were at Highlanders and my thoughts were Peter was just another Ndlovu coming onto the scene. It must have been 1988 or 1999 when coaches Ashton “Papa” Nyazika and Daniel “Dhidhidhi” Chikanda called for a national Under-20 camp at Manyame Airbase.
There were about 40 players to choose from and I remember there was tough competition. Most players had heard about a certain guy called Peter from Bulawayo but we knew nothing about his play.
Peter only played about 10 minutes and scored a beautiful volley that I still vividly remember up to this day.

He scored twice past me in his last game before he left for Coventry City. I remember Caps United lost 1-2 to Highlanders in that game and I actually joked with Peter that I had given him a perfect send off.

I can talk for 100 years and still not finish talking about Peter Ndlovu’s greatness.
I remember his first game against Dynamos in 1989 at the National Sports Stadum, oh boy, he was just in devastating form.
Not many knew about him then because he was just coming from the juniors but at the end of that game he had scored a double as Highlanders beat Dynamos 3-1.
He gave the Dynamos defence, which had the likes of Henry “Beefy” Charles and Stanley “Samora” Chirambadare, a torrid time especially on the wings. To me, I think that’s the game that made him what he went on to be, a legend.
Then in 1991 he scored a goal that I think is one of the finest goals I have ever watched both locally and internationally.
It was the fourth goal against South Africa at the National Sports Stadium and that was just a fine piece of art as he waltzed his way past a number of defenders before stylishly finishing it off.
