THREE people were arrested in Zimuto this week for unlawful possession of raw ivory in violation of the Parks and Wildlife Act.

Grace Masaiti (48), Norman Bere (38) and Richard Madoro (73) were arrested by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Masvingo.

The arrests followed a tip-off that the trio had elephant tusks and was seeking buyers.

According to a statement from the CID, the detectives swiftly identified the suspects. Upon questioning, the trio was unable to produce a permit or license authorising the possession of the tusks.

“This failure to provide lawful documentation led to their arrest and the seizure of four raw, unmarked elephant tusks,” reported Detective cc.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police warned the public against the illegal killing, trading, and trafficking of wildlife resources, emphasising the need for community vigilance in protecting the nation’s natural heritage.
