Trio in court over drug peddling

THREE Mutare men have appeared in court facing two counts of unlawful possession of dangerous drugs and unlawful possession of unregistered medicine.

Owen Nheredzo (31), Patience Nyasha Tatsere (29) and Merjury Woto (34) pleaded not guilty when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Perseverance Makala facing unlawful possession of dangerous drugs and unregistered medicine charges.

They were remanded out of custody on $8 000 bail each.

Prosecuting, Mrs Tafadzwa Chiwanza said on July 19, detectives from Mutare’s Criminal Investigation Department’s Drugs and Narcotics Section who were on patrol observed that there were drug dealing activities taking place at a parked motor vehicle at Mims Centre along Fourth Street, Mutare.

Detectives approached the parked car and identified themselves to the accused persons before conducting a search in the motor vehicle.

They managed to recover a red small bag containing 2x100mls bottles of Broncleer cough syrup from the car boot and one sachet of crystal methamphetamine from a compartment under the steering wheel.

The accused were subsequently arrested.
