Trio jailed over Belgravia shooting

Two Chinese men who shot Kevin Guzah and Kudzai Nduku after mistaking them for armed robbers in Belgravia early this year were last week sentenced to an effective 33 months in prison, while their Zimbabwean accomplice was sentenced to an effective 21 months in prison.

Luo Tingpen (27), Li Yize (27) and Gamuchirai Nigel Zuze (23) were found guilty of attempted murder when they appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Hosea Mujaya.

Luo and Li were initially sentenced to three and half years in prison while Zuze got two and a half years in prison.

Mr Mujaya suspended nine months of the sentences on condition of good behaviour.

HProsecuting, Mr Michael Reza alleged that Guzah was driving a Toyota Vitz in the company of Nduku along Lincoln Road in Belgravia.

As they approached No. 17 Lincoln Road, they heard gunshots from the house.

Fearing for their lives, they made a U-turn and drove towards Zuva Service Station in Belgravia.

The trio, who were in pursuit, jumped out of their cars, approached Guzah’s car, shot Nduku in the pelvis and assaulted her.

Guzah got out of the car and fled, but fell into a trench.

One of the accomplices came and shot him in the pelvis while he was still in the trench.
