THREE people appeared in court yesterday for illegal possession of ivory worth more than US$6 000.
Pastor Simbarashe Nyoni and Makwenha Nyamayevhu of Zvishavane, and Rodreck Funny Nyoni of Goromonzi, appeared before magistrate Tafadzwa Miti.
The court heard that on August 6,
Detective Assistant Inspector Mucharuona of ZRP CID Braeside, received information that the three were in possession of elephant tusks and wanted to sell them in Borrowdale.
Police acted on the tip-off and officers went to Fife Avenue shops, where they identified the trio, who were carrying a white sack.
Police then intercepted the trio and asked to search them.
It led to the recovery of four tusks from the sack.
The ivory weighed 38kgs and is worth US$6 426.
