THREE people were arrested on Thursday for unlawful possession of ivory in Zimuto.

Grace Masaiti, 48, Norman Bere, 38, and Richard Madoro, 73 were nabbed by detectives from CID Masvingo.

Their arrest came after a tip-off revealed that the trio was in possession of elephant tusks and were looking for buyers in the Zimuto area.

According to a statement from the CID, the detectives questioned the suspects and they were unable to produce a permit or license authorising the possession of the tusks.

“This failure to provide lawful documentation led to their arrest and the seizure of four raw unmarked elephant tusks,” said CID spokesperson Detective Inspector Muteweri.

She issued a stern warning to the public against the illegal killing, trading, and trafficking of wildlife resources. She said community vigilance was key in protecting the nation’s natural heritage.
