“It’s true that we are no longer part of the Fishers of Men. The working conditions were poor, there was no life assurance and no bonuses,” said Tom.
Tom alleges that Pastor Charamba has since roped in Charles Iberg, whom he had sacked after realising that the group was now weak.
Masuki confirmed the departure but could not, however, shed more light.
“We had a meeting with him about two weeks ago and after we failed to reach an agreement, we decided to leave. We had our own differences,” he said.
The trio have since joined singer Gift Mwanza, though on a temporary basis.
However, Charamba said the members have not communicated with him.
“As far as I know, I will be touring the UK with them. It’s only that they are no longer full-time band members.
“I am currently restructuring, they may have not liked the new arrangements. But to me they said we will continue to work together,” said Charamba.
Charamba said the band was a big family and most of the group members were session musicians. “We are a very big family of about 16; our shows will go on as usual. The only person that we are replacing is the drummer. Those who left are free to come back any time,” he said.
Masuki is not new to the music, having founded Chapungu Stars before joining the Fishers of Men.He has worked with Innocent Mujintu, Hosiah Chipanga and Aaron Chinamira while Tom worked with artistes like Sugar Sugar and Douglas Mandaza.
Pastor Charamba has won many awards in recognition of his sterling performance in the arts sector in Zimbabwe. His popularity started growing with his chart-busting albums like “Exodus” and “Sunday Service” which spawned hits like “Mhinduro Iripo” and “Musoro”.
He has also worked on a number of musical projects with his wife, Olivia, who is also a composer and a musician in her own right.
