Three Harare men appeared in court yesterday charged with murder after they allegedly robbed and fatally assaulted a man using a stone.
The incident took place opposite Girls High School in Harare.
Simon Chihungwa (25), Talent Mawere (26) and Tafadzwa Chayambuka (28), appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima charged with murder.
Bail was denied and the matter was remanded to November 17 this year.
Prosecutor Ms Sharon Mashavira alleged that on October 6, the trio hatched a plan to rob two men who were walking along Leopold Takawira Street into the city centre.
The court heard that the three attacked the men from behind and hit the now deceased once on the back of his head and twice on his forehead and he fell unconscious.
They then robbed him of US$60 and a Samsung champ mobile phone.
The man’s uncle managed to escape from the scene.
When the man’s uncle returned, Chihungwa and his accomplices had fled, while the deceased had regained consciousness.
The court heard that the man and his uncle walked together to Harare Central Police Station where they reported the robbery.
The man died four days later due to injuries.
The trio was arrested after investigators traced a customer who had bought the stolen cellphone.
