Gwanda United pipped FC Vuba to the top spot in a season which saw them losing once interestingly to the latter in the province’s Division 2A league while Tripple B Academy which consisted mainly of Under-20 youngsters secured promotion into the second tier league after their seniors won the league championship to book a berth into the topflight league.
The promotion of Beitbridge youngsters will rekindle the city derby which is one of the fiercest battles in the country pitting Tripple B and FC Strikers but it still has to be seen if it will carry the same intense passion among the border town soccer enthusiasts.
Eddie Kanyangu, Tripple B president, was happy with the promotion of the youngsters and said he will use the Division One side as a developmental side to feed the senior side.
“As Tripple B we are very happy with the milestone that we have achieved where the senior side managed to gain promotion into the Castle Lager Premiership while the Academy is now in Division One.
“The youngsters are just a developmental side and as such they are in the Central Soccer League to just compete and as a club our aim is to make sure that in the next two to three years we would not be buying players but taking them from the Academy,” he said.
Gwanda United manager identified only as Khan was equally excited at the prospect of playing in the Central Soccer League but pointed out that there was a dire need to inject funds into the club if the dream of playing Division One soccer is to come true.
Gwanda United replace Blanket Mine who were relegated to Division Two with neighbours Vumbachikwe and Jessie Mine.
