A brace by Ngonidzashe Murisa and a strike from the boot of Nobert Zingoma ensured that the airmen collected maximum points in an ill-tempered match which saw Kwekwe referee Munyaradzi Majoni flashing three red cards — on FC Strikers’ duo of Maxwell Mavhuto and former Dynamos defender Brighton Tuwaya and Chapungu’s Victor Bangira.
Bangira was sent for an early shower at the same time as Mavhuto after the two were involved in a physical scuffle in an off-the-ball incident.
The win saw Chapungu, who sit on third position with 36 points, reducing the gap between them and FC Strikers to a single point. Coach John Nyikadzino believes the win is their launchpad to a final championship onslaught on the log leaders.
“The win today shows that we have the quality and the depth to challenge for the championship. Our main undoing was the lack of consistency but we are slowly getting there and with 30 points still to play for, we still have a chance to challenge for honours,” Nyikadzino said.
Vumbachikwe edged fellow gold miners Jessie Mine 1-0 in a Gwanda derby while varsity students MSU’s purple patch continued when they subdued seasoned campaigners New Zimsteel 2-0 at Ascot.
FC Platinum Under-19s also won by the same margin against army side, Tongogara.
