VICE President Emmerson Mnangagwa says the government will go out of its way to revamp the troubled Air Zimbabwe and enhance its businesses competitiveness.

Responding to a question in Parliament on Wednesday on why the national carrier was on numerous occasions failing to stick to its scheduled time table, the Vice President said the parastatal was going through a difficult patch.

“As the government, we’d want Air Zimbabwe to do those things that would attract more customers to Air Zimbabwe,” VP Mnangagwa responded.

“When Air Zimbabwe was created, the intention was that it must do the best in the market, competing with others.”

He said the commercial will to make Air Zimbabwe a better carrier was there as well as the political will.

Air Zimbabwe is struggling to service its domestic and regional routes due to a number of challenges among them an ageing fleet and equipment, lack of capital and a debt overhang amid increasing competition from low cost operators.
