A HAULAGE truck driver was burnt beyond recognition in a road accident at the 122 km peg along the Harare- Chirundu highway last week.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesman, Inspector Ian Kohwera, told H-Metro, that the accident occurred after the driver of a Honda Fit, with one passenger on board, collided head-on with a Freightliner Haulage truck.
The truck was towing a trailer laden with lime.
Kohwera said upon reaching the 122 km peg, the driver of the Honda Fit encroached into the lane of the haulage truck, resulting in the head-on collision.
He said the Honda Fit overturned once and landed on its wheels while the haulage truck veered off to the right side of the road and landed on its side, trapping the driver inside.
“The truck caught fire and the driver was burnt beyond recognition,” said Kohwera.
He said the driver of the Honda Fit sustained injuries and was taken to Karoi District Hospital for treatment and was in a stable condition.
Kohwera said the Honda Fit passenger escaped with no injuries.
“We continue to urge drivers to exercise extra caution when driving and to adhere to the road rules and regulations to avoid loss of life and property,” said Kohwera.
