A LOCAL truck driver has been dragged to the maintenance court by his former wife for the upkeep of their kid.
The man, only identified as Tsikai, was taken to the court by his ex-wife, Shylet Makomba.
He offered to pay $30 000 for the upkeep of his child.
“The amount she is claiming is too much, l cannot afford to pay it.
“I am a truck driver, but the truck was involved in a road accident and l am waiting for it to be repaired.
“I sustained injuries so l am getting help from my employer who is giving me US$120 per month.
“I am married, l have two other children and my wife is expecting. My offer is $30 000,” he said.
Makomba rejected the offer saying Tsikai was not telling the truth. “I do not accept the offer because what he is saying is not true.
“It’s no use getting proof from his workplace because he is employed by his uncle,” she said.
The court was guided by information given by Tsikai because Makomba had no proof to support her argument.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavire ordered Tsikai to pay $30 000 maintenance plus school fees and uniforms.
