True test of the times

TIME is the most important resource there is. It is in fact all we have.

We all will be tested and judged as to how well we have used our time and as patriots, we must strive to ensure that we use our time effectively towards the benefit of our beloved nation.

Different times tend to be associated with different challenges that each require specific solutions to circumvent such challenges.

The path to self-determination is not an easy one and all of us in our different capacities are required to carry our weight and ensure that we are not left wanting.

Each generation must choose its own battles or contend with failure for the rest of their existence.

We are all placed on this earth with an equal opportunity for achieving great things. I come from a generation that placed love of country over self-preservation.

In fact, some of us, who fought the treacherous war of liberation against the oppressors are alive today because there are those who died while defending all of us and in the quest for freedom.

The ultimate price was paid. The generations that came after need not face the same challenges nor wage the same wars that we did.

We crawled so that they could walk, and they must ensure that future generations can run.

We all love Zimbabwe equally, maybe some more than others, but that does not change the fact that this is the only country we are ever going to have; this is home.

My generation was tested, and we were not found wanting. We did the needful and we brought back the country that had been lost for close to a century.

Now that the country is firmly in our hands, and we are unlikely to ever face the same conditions of subjugation that we endured, the current generation must make a choice as to how they want to proceed.

Well, at least they have a choice, we gave them a choice by liberating the country. We had none during our time.

There was only one way out of it all, which was to liberate our beloved country.

The current generation must choose if they want to destroy everything that we worked so hard to build or if they want to be the ones who take forward the mantle and push for the total emancipation and success of our people.

We built the foundation, and those who came after us are duty-bound to protect the gains we made and also take the nation forward into an era of prosperity.

Zimbabwe, as we know it, has been built atop the bones of those who perished trying to reclaim it, and their efforts were not in vain, for we did succeed in reclaiming our beloved land.

Now that we have laid down the firm foundation, there is a great deal of work that must be undertaken to ensure that we are equipped well enough to face an uncertain future.

They say, Africa as a continent, is at a great disadvantage. I prefer to think not. We have all the resources and we have the most youthful population in the world. That should give us a massive advantage.

The war that the current generations should be fighting is one that seeks to ensure that we get the most out of our resources.

It is an economic one. For long, we have been cheated out of our resources and have been paid far less than we deserve.

We must at this point in time realise that, for our people to reach economic emancipation, there is a need for them to leverage their resources and get the best possible deal at every turn.

The current and upcoming generations must look within themselves and ascertain their role in Zimbabwe’s journey towards its aspirations.

They will certainly be put to the test and more will be required of them. Each one of us must be able to play our part in building Zimbabwe.

This most critical task is one in which every single Zimbabwean has responsibility for.

We are all demanded to show up and play our role in order for our nation to take its rightful place. As we labour towards attaining our vision, let us not be found wanting.

Let us make the most of our time and ensure that we all make the best use of it for the benefit of our beloved Zimbabwe.
