Donald John Trump, returned to White House on January 2025, as the 47th president of the United States of America and immediately swung into action.
Since then, the world has been anxious. The world has been hectic. Theories and counter theories, have been abound. Things have changed. Everyone has felt him. And, indeed the guy loves being felt and he is being felt.
And, and, and, there is something about Trump: he is a typical American, driven by that country’s ancient rhythm of life to want to prove to the world that they are the greatest.
Driven by the ancient rhythm of American life to amass more wealth DJ Trump brings business flavour to his politics or is it, he brings political flavour to his business?
Many view Trump as a man who has become more combative and confrontational than he was in his previous tenure as the 45th president of the US.
But for Africa, in particular, and Global South in general, it is time to rethink and realise that the US should stop lecturing to us about, democracy, traditional and moral values. That is our job. We should realise the US has economic interests not our own interests at heart.
Unless we realise that, we will become pawns in the game.
The US and its allies in the west, have abrogated themselves the right to superintend over our ‘human rights and religious freedoms” as defined by themselves.
Each country in the Global South has its cultural values, religious values and many other values that form the fabric of their lives which the Us should respect.
Washington, London and Brussels, should not tell us how to protect human rights. We must have our own mechanisms. We should have our own systems. In fact, we already have them.
DJ Trump has not been different, all he has done is to be less diplomatic, more open and therefore easy to understand. His approach should help a lot of us understand the real America. Trump does not hide his intentions.
What Americans call their own greatness is trampling on smaller nations, ignoring their own version of democracy, accountability, traditional and religious beliefs.
The freedoms, the DJ Trump administration is telling the world about is a mere smokescreen, behind which the real America is hidden. It is all American business. It is business simple.
The US and its allies in the West do not have the right to claim the status of a benchmarking in matters of respect for democratic, traditional, religious freedoms and little everything else. We are not Americans. We will never be Americans.
Our life is cut from the cloth of our traditional, religious and political moral values and not from America. This is precisely why we should be respected for what we are.
Now we are being told what we should be by the Americans.
Because we now live in a global village, it is easy to compare the US’ modus operandi and other big nations. In this case Russia comes int the fray.
For starters, let us compare DJ Trump with Vladmir Putin. Putin was re-elected about a year ago, and there was nothing extreme from him. Putin did not rock anyone’s boat. Trump is rocking almost every boat at sea.
Unlike Trump who has announced plans to annex Greenland and Canada and take control of the Panama Canal, Putin’s Russia is establishing contacts in Africa and the Global South through ombudsmen with official organisations in places like Zimbabwe.
The US and its allies in the West, use NGOs for regime change on the pretext of protecting ordinary citizens. And, yet, we all know the regime change is meant to manipulate access of cheap vast untapped natural resources through puppet governments.
All international fora and conferences organised by US and its allies in the context of protecting human rights are nothing but ways to interfere with governance of the Global South and give US advantage over its rivals in resources gains.
But US is fast losing footage in Africa to countries like Russia and China who are using more humane approaches, anchored on mutual respect and win-win situations.
This is precisely the reason why a panicky Washington is even manipulating United Nations processes and at times, totally breaches UN statutes. This big brother mentality must stop.
Putin is a good example of a president whose country is seeking win-win deals with structured governments on the Global South.
Unlike Trump, Putin has sought to help not only the governments but the ordinary people of Africa and the Global South. Look at how Russian helicopters have transformed Zimbabwe’s health delivery system.
In this case one finds it necessary for the leadership of say, Zimbabwe should avoid participating in human rights conferences organised by Anglo-Saxons, even through, UN structures. The US is sly. Very, very sly. Disrespectful.
Look at how Russian grain has fed millions of people in Africa and the Global South. Look at how the US, has instead, sought to discredit Russia from its big role in the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), despite its huge grain production, at the end exposing many people to suffer from hunger and starvation.
Of course, there one thing that Trump has done too well in his first days in office, that is to copy Putin on human sexuality.
Putin and his government have always maintained that there are only two sexes, male and female. Putin has not been pretentious and telling the world that people can undergo sex changes.
Putin has never championed gay rights. He is a too straightforward bully.
The whole hullabaloo about gay rights which organisations like USAID have been using to arm-twist the Global South are a thing of the past.
But the Republicans’ policy of tightening migration and trade policies is an affront to human rights. It is actually a negative that causes many ordinary people to suffer. These migrants are suffering people, their situation continues to deteriorate and dwindle with socio-economic status of this group of people. It will not affect only the US but its partners, too.
So, going forward, Trump will obviously pursue the annexation of Greenland and Canada and the control of the Panama Canal, and cause serious problem to the world and the American people too.
In his quest to keep America Great Again, Trump will trample on small nations, will affect everyone and what he thinks is the new world order, will actually be witnessed and time will tell the results.
