Trust Academy’s Toastmasters Club in conjunction with the First Aid team members have joined hands in raising up an assortment of groceries to donate to Revelation Charity School in Kuwadzana.

The charity mission is the first which will see both clubs joining hands in helping the needy in the first half of this year.

Toastmasters Club president Simbarashe Makumbe (18) confirmed that the two clubs were targeting to raise up to $100 fund to buy an assortment of basic groceries.

“We wish to raise approximately $100 which we think if we could use to buy basic foodstuff like rice, cooking oil, sugar, salt would help the children. The charity home houses about 70 orphaned and under-privileged children and ours is a mission to reach out to them and show them a great amount of love by interacting with them,” she said.

Makumbe said funds for the noble charity visit will be raised from fellow students at Trust Academy.

“We have already begun collecting charity money from students at Trust Academy which we intend to use for procuring groceries and first aid kits,” she said.

First Aid Club team leader Takunda Makava (19) who is an Upper Sixth Arts student also said for those who could not afford to help with money they could donate clothes they no longer wear.

“We understand that since we are students it is not everyone of us who can afford to help with money, as such everyone is free to help in any way possible including clothes they no longer can wear.

“However, we hope to collect clothes that are still in good condition because the idea is not only to give anything but sustainable donations for the needy at Revelation Charity School,” said Makava.

Organisers of the charity mission have not yet been allocated a specific date but they intend to leave anytime in the coming few weeks during a learning day as a way to show solidarity with the underprivileged.

“We haven’t yet received authorisation from our staff as to the exact day for the visit but we intent to sacrifice our studies on a learning day as a way to demonstrate our deepest love for these children,” said Toastmasters club member Brandon Mhundwa (19).

The task force’s secretary Adelaide Samanga (18) said although it will be their first time undertaking such a noble mission with donations being small they intended to make the day memorable.

“This will be the first time we will be going on a charity mission this year so our groceries will not be that much,

“Nevertheless we intend to make it a big day by playing with the children, teaching them how to conduct first aid and sharing life experiences,” said Samanga.

Makava reiterated that the donation is meant to create a positive student image as well as motivate other young people to take such initiatives.

“This charity mission will undeniably help in enhancing our college brand but most importantly we intend to create

our own individual brands as young people who believe in making a difference

by giving to the needy of our communities. The idea is also to motivate other young people to start thinking around issues to do with making a difference by helping the needy,” said Makava.

Members of both clubs will take a whole day interacting with the orphans and share life experiences

“Since it will be an entire day we have slotted a cocktail of games to play with the children as well as help in cleaning their dormitories. Our agenda is to take time and share experiences with these orphans which is something we rarely do and would mean a lot to them,” said one task force member.
