In a powerful display of resilience, musician Tryson Chimbetu, a former victim of drug and substance abuse, has pledged to expose local drug suppliers in his community.
At the Anti-Drug Awareness Campaign held at Chemhanza Grounds last Friday, he proclaimed himself a “champion” in the fight against substance abuse.
Tryson expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Mnangagwa and the government for their intensified efforts to combat the drug crisis affecting the nation’s youth.
“I survived to teach others,” he said, emphasizing the importance of rehabilitation in his journey.
Declaring his commitment to protect the youth, Tryson stated, “I am aware of the drug dealers who were supplying me here in Glenview.
“I will expose them unless they cease their operations.”
The event attracted a diverse crowd, including school children, teachers, prison inmates, and local artists, all marching together to raise awareness.
Tryson captivated the audience with performances of beloved songs by the late Simon Chimbetu and his father, Naison Chimbetu, before introducing tracks from his latest album.
His music served as both a tribute and a rallying cry for change.
The event also featured performances by Chigudo, currently incarcerated, the dance group Majestic Movement, and traditional Nyau dancers, further enriching the campaign’s festive yet serious atmosphere.
This campaign underscores the community’s ongoing battle with drug abuse and highlights Tryson’s role as a beacon of hope and advocacy.
