CHAOS RETURNS

JOSE MOURINHO’s long-awaited return to Porto descended into carnage on Sunday night.

Mourinho had objects hurled at him and onto the pitch and Benfica fans tearing into each other in the stands. The Portuguese icon, who famously led Porto to a shock Champions League triumph in 2004 was back at the Estadio do Dragao with his Benfica side.

Many Porto fans are upset to see the Special One take charge of rivals Benfica which led to emotions running high and ultimately spiralling out of control into total mayhem.

Water bottles and lighters were launched from the stands during the heated clash between Porto and bitter rivals Benfica, forcing multiple stoppages in play as security scrambled to restore order. And it wasn’t just the pitch under attack. Shockingly, Benfica supporters turned on each other, with violent clashes breaking out in the away end, leaving stunned onlookers horrified.

Stadium stewards and police were seen rushing in to separate the fighting fans as tensions threatened to boil over completely.

Mourinho, visibly unshaken on the touchline, kept a low profile amid the chaos and was even seen picking up some of the objects thrown on the pitch.

Porto had a banner that read: “There’s only one Special One Futebol Clube Porto”

The former Chelsea, Manchester United and Real Madrid boss had returned with his Benfica side hoping to keep pace with Porto, who currently top the league table and had won every game.

He did walk away with a point after a 1-1 draw a result he may be satisfied with but it came on a night of flying missiles, flaring tempers, and disgraceful scenes − Sun.
