A wave of support from Zimbabwean socialites and music lovers has poured in for dancehall artist Tocky Vibes following the underwhelming turnout at his album launch event on Saturday.
The artist, known for timeless hits like Amai and Tocky Ayenda Nenyika, launched a new project that was expected to draw fans in large numbers. However, to the surprise of many, the event did not attract the crowd anticipated sparking widespread online reactions.
Instead of ridicule, however, the moment has become a powerful show of solidarity, with several Zimbabwean influencers, artists, and fans sending public words of encouragement to the veteran musician.
Baba Harare was among the first to weigh in on the issue, defending Tocky’s legacy and calling out critics.
“Don’t worry Tocky Vibes. Victory was delayed, not denied. You are a legendary and great artist,” he wrote. “Our industry has bad days which are public. Onwards and Upwards. You’re not alone.”
“Don’t worry, Chama. Just give them the music to enjoy,” said EXQ- Mr Putiti. “This is just one of the challenges we face in our industry.”
His words were echoed by fans who say that Tocky’s music still holds immense value and just needs more visibility and support.
The incident has also sparked reflection on how quick the public is to dismiss talent. Many believe the low attendance had less to do with Tocky’s relevance and more with lack of publicity, venue choice, or conflicting events.
“Next week we try again as if we know no pain. Sometimes we learn the hard way,” King Solomon Zim said.
“Tocky vibes and team, go back to the drawing board, correct your mistakes, give yourselves enough time to prepare and try again. This time Ndandi Go round will win,” he added
Despite the stumble, Tocky Vibes has yet to release an official statement. However, those close to him say he remains focused and encouraged by the overwhelming support.
His fans, meanwhile, are urging him to release the music officially so that those who missed the show can still enjoy the new work.
In a country where artists often face career-denting moments due to a single event or online opinion, the outpouring of love and defence for Tocky Vibes may just reignite a broader movement one that values consistency, lyrical depth, and respect for those who’ve shaped Zimbabwean music over the years.
“We don’t discard legends over one night. Tocky is still our voice.”
