Tsamba sets African record

THE Zimbabwe Draughts Federation reigning champion Clifford Tsamba made history by becoming the first African to finish in the top 20 at the World Draughts Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia, over the weekend.

The 37-year-old ZIMDF member was part of the World Championships organised by the International Draughts Federation and featuring several contestants from throughout the world. A member of the Inner City Club that is resident at Charge Office Bus Terminus in Harare where he is the secretary-general, Tsamba went into the compe tition as a three-time Harare champion and managed to break the record set by Malawi’s Enock Makoka Banda who finished in 41st place at the same competition two years ago. Speaking after his success, Tsamba, a very enthusiastic player who believes that Zimbabwe holds potential to have Africa’s best player, said he will continue to work hard and see the sport get some full recognition.
