TSHEFUNYE Super Stars Netball Club from Tsholotsho is appealing to well wishers for funding to enable them to play in the more competitive Bulawayo Netball League.
Taking a leaf from Tsholotsho FC, who play in the Castle Lager Premiership and are based in Bulawayo, the girls believe they have what it takes to go all the way and even qualify to play in the national league.
The team recently won a pre-season tournament involving eight teams, a feat that brought the belief that they can do it at a higher level.
Sithandazile Dube, the Tshefunye Super Stars coach, said they had run out of competition in the Tsholotsho Netball Association and now wanted to taste competition in a higher league.
“Funding is our biggest undoing because if we join the Bulawayo League, it will mean a lot of travelling. We’re ready to play in Bulawayo anytime and are appealing to any corporate bodies out there to come to our assistance in cash or kind. This team was formed mainly to take the girl child away from evil temptations like unnecessary pregnancies or other evil vices,” said Dube.
She said their team is made up of 14 players, who include juniors and seniors.
Zimbabwean netball has not enjoyed corporate support and even the national league is struggling to attract any meaningful sponsorship.
