The festive season is always a time for celebration, and for the young footballers of Bulawayo, the inaugural Tshisa 18 Festival Tournament promises to be an unforgettable experience.

Taking place on December 28 and 29 at Mzilikazi Primary School, the tournament will bring together four teams of talented youngsters, all vying for glory in the U/15 and U/7 age groups.

The four teams competing in the tournament are Tigers, Real Stars, Mzilikazi, and Nguboyenja.

The brainchild of Johannes Tshisa Ngodzo, a passionate advocate for grassroots football development, and business leader Foster Maseko. Maseko, a long-time supporter of youth football, has generously sponsored the tournament, providing medals, trophies, and individual prizes for the winners.

“We are thrilled to be supporting this wonderful initiative,” Maseko said.

“As a community, we have a responsibility to nurture the talents of our young people, and this tournament is a fantastic way to do just that. I have no doubt that we will see some exceptional football on display, and I look forward to presenting the prizes to the winners.”

Ngodzo, the tournament’s organizer, shares Maseko’s enthusiasm for the event. “We are excited to be hosting this tournament, which promises to be a fantastic showcase of young football talent,” he said.

“Our goal is to provide a platform for these youngsters to develop their skills, make new friends, and have fun playing the beautiful game.”

Kick-off is scheduled for 8am on both days, and spectators are invited to come and support the next generation of football stars.

As the Tshisa 18 Festival Tournament prepares to kick off, one thing is clear: this is an event that promises to be an unforgettable experience for all involved. With the support of generous sponsors like Foster Maseko, and the tireless efforts of organizers like Johannes ‘Tshisa’ Ngodzo, the future of Zimbabwean football is in good hands.

Retired footballers expected to grace the event include Irvine Khunalo, Danisa Phiri, Gift Lunger (Jnr), Voster Chitemu, Zenzo Moyo, Petros Ngodzo and Claymore Mutomba.

The tournament was made possible through funding provided by the likes of Lucky Mabhena who provide branded t/shirts and also branded all four teams’ playing kits.
