NATIONAL Assembly member for Tsholotsho South Cde Musa Ncube has called on communities to desist from engaging in all forms of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) which she said was rife in the district.
Speaking at the occasion to commemorate 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Tsholotsho, she said it was embarrassing that cases of child marriages, early pregnancies, assaults and general violence against girls and women continue to be reported in the district and said Government was doing everything to ensure there was total eradication of such cases.
She called on communities to complement Government efforts by ensuring they live peacefully and engage in problem solving without resorting to violence while also protecting the rights of girl children and women in particular.

“We don’t want to keep hearing these high statistics on HIV/Aids and child marriages as our top issues in Tsholotsho.
“We need to fight together and we will definitely win. As stakeholders let us come up with solutions to curb the problem rather than just to sit and watch as our communities are being wasted and ruined through GBV,” said Cde Ncube.
She said she was going to meet with development partners and stakeholders and deliberate on how they could assist each other in fighting gender-based violence adding that they were going to have more awareness campaigns to conscientise communities on the dangers of GBV.
The commemorations started with a march around Shaba Business Centre in Tsholotsho where more than 400 people were in attendance. The march was part of efforts to raise awareness for the public to resist all forms of gender-based violence. About 100 girls who attended the event were given two packs of sanitary pads each by Cde Musa.
