THERE is only one way to conquer when you come short and that’s trying again. This is what Tsholotsho District is doing with the première of a short film titled, Isiqalekiso slated for tonight at Melz Lifestyle in Tsholotsho.
This will be followed by the Tsholotsho Arts Festival concert at Ebhawa Endala, Tsholotsho Business Centre.
The short film, produced by local actor Allen Ndlovu follows a failed attempt on another one titled, Igolide lam. It features a youthful cast and a prominent cross-border transporter.
In an interview, Ndlovu said the movie seeks to address a pandemic synonymous with youths — substance abuse.
“Nowadays, the society we live in has been plagued by wanton abuse of drugs by youths and this has led to the perpetration of heinous crimes. It is a wonderful initiative by youths to promote arts and stay away from drugs and other vices.
“The film is set in Tsholotsho and features an all-Tsholotsho cast. It’s a collaborative work of various artistes based in Tsholotsho and features promising young and up-and-coming artistes,” he said.
Ndlovu is an artiste majoring in the maskandi genre. He is widely known as, “Mathunyw’avume”. He was trained in drama and film by the late Cont Mhlanga and Iluba Elimnyama and owns a theatre company called Iqhude Arts.

Besides being known as the area that houses the popular rhumba outfit, “Insimbi ZeZhwane” Tsholotsho is also home to famous actors Bhekilizwe Ndlovu of Amakorokoza, Ernest Phosa Ndlovu of Generations and Inkaba among other films and a host or artistes.
The ultimate thrill ride will be capped off by the Tsholotsho Arts Festival concert tomorrow with Tsholotsho district marketing and publicity manager Mankosi Ncube saying up-and-coming local artistes will come out to play.
“The idea behind the concert is to promote local talent. The line-up will only have up-and-coming talent. Also, there’s a need to champion behavioural change in our society and such a concert will help young people carve careers in the straight and narrow,” said Ncube.
At the concert, Moving Stars Band, The Expandables, Igqwetha likaMaskandi, Gathseni lamaCPF, Inkosi yaseNembe, Young cheater, Msheli Wentombi, Indlanyoni Yodumo, Jubie J, Die Cyco, Ndlanyoni yodumo, Amacelebrity, Amathwasa kaGwajoe, Snippers Crew, DJ Ngamla, Nqubeko Brothers, and Umathunyw’avume will perform. – @eMKlass_49
