Tsholotsho executives face disciplinary action

TSHOLOTSHO Rural District Council executives are set to be summoned to a disciplinary hearing, after they reportedly dipped into the local authority’s coffers, doubled and paid themselves salaries without seeking approval from the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.

Concerns have since been raised over the local authority, as there are fears that thousands of dollars are being misappropriated by council executives.

Tsholotsho RDC audit chairperson, Councillor Soka Ngwenya told Sunday News that the executives had, without engaging councillors or the ministry, accessed funds from the local authority’s coffers.

“What they did was illegal, a meeting was held last week and they apologised for their actions. It was during the same meeting that the council chairperson requested they write a report of what transpired. I am made aware that a disciplinary hearing will be held soon over their actions,” said Clr Ngwenya.

He said the executives had requested a cushion in their June salaries and wanted it in US dollars. It was after a week that Government announced the scrapping of the multi-currency system they requested an increase in their salaries saying the local currency had devalued.

Tsholotsho RDC council chairperson Clr Esau Siwela said council would soon look into the various issues that have been raised.
