THE Tsholotsho injiva who threw an R500 000 housewarming bash in 2021 has been shot dead in South Africa.
Ndumiso Sibanda, from Mathetshaneni in Gwelu village, was gunned down in the early hours of yesterday morning in Hilbrow by unknown assailants.
Confirming the tragedy, Ward 17 Councillor and family member, Mr Church Ncube, said the family was still in shock.
“It is true he passed away in South Africa. He is my son-in-law. From what we know, he was shot around 2am after attending a birthday party. That’s all the information we have for now,” said Mr Ncube.
Sibanda, known for his generosity, was a lifeline to many families back home, often supplying groceries to the needy.
However, fear has gripped his friends and associates in South Africa, with many refusing to speak out, worried that the killers might come after them.
“His killers are still out there and watching. Nobody wants to talk until it’s safe,” said a source from Hilbrow.
Sibanda made headlines in 2021 when he hosted a lavish two-day housewarming bash that turned into a music festival, with more than a dozen top Rhumba and local artists performing.
The star-studded line-up included Mxolisi “Mr Bones” Ndlovu, Clement Magwaza, Tsheba Boys, Dubia Masters, Zinjaziyamluma, Insimbi Zezhwane, Madlela Sikhobokhobo, Mzoe 7, Khaya Arts and many more.
Sibanda and his tight-knit crew, famously known as Umzila Wegolide, were popular for splashing cash at Rhumba album launches and events.
His close friend and businessman, Mamba from Insuza, said his death was a crushing blow to their plans to support local artists.
“We had something big lined up for the DJ Mapresa event on 4 October, and another for December. Everything has been shattered by his passing,” Mamba said with a heavy heart.
Police in South Africa are yet to release details about the motive or the suspects.
