LEFT-footed Tsholotsho FC utility player Zimiseleni Moyo has completed a move back to the Zambian Premiership after penning a two-year deal with champions Zanaco.
Moyo left the country on January 3 and signed with Zanaco last Friday and has also been registered as part of the squad for the 2017 edition of the Caf Champions League.
In a telephone interview from the Zambian Eastern Province capital Chipata where Zanaco is on a pre-season camp, Moyo said he was excited to return to Zambia.
“I’m happy and honoured to have joined Zanaco, one of Zambia’s biggest clubs. I’ve signed a two-year deal and I’m looking forward to enjoying my football as well as helping the team win accolades. I know the demands of playing for a big club having spent five seasons at Zesco United, who are based in Ndola.
So for me to enjoy the success I had with Zesco, I have to do my part at Zanaco, work hard and be a positive influence in the team,” said Moyo.
In his previous Zambian stint, Moyo won two league titles with Zesco in 2010 and 2014. The utility player, who turns 32 in May, spent the last half of the 2016 season with Tsholotsho and helped them survive relegation.
At Tsholotsho, Moyo, who is comfortable playing as a left-back or left-link, played as an anchorman.
He had a good season for Tsholotsho, reviving his career after spending the whole of 2015 and the first half of the 2016 season jobless after leaving Zesco following the expiry of his contract at the end of 2014.
His stock rose after resuscitating his career at Tsholotsho resulting in a number of local teams expressing an interest in his services.
He was linked to Highlanders, ZPC Kariba, Bulawayo City, Caps United and Dynamos.
“The offer I got from Zanaco was good and that’s why I took it. I’m grateful to Tsholotsho for giving me a chance to prove my worth and revive my career.
Even when I wasn’t playing between 2015 and 2016, I never lost hope because I knew that I still have a couple of years left as a player. I think what was key was to maintain my body in shape by doing enough training and having the right sportsperson’s diet. The other thing is that I don’t drink alcoholic beverages, which gives me an extra edge,” said Moyo.
He becomes the second player to leave Tsholotsho during the off-season break after another utility player MacClive Phiri joined Ngezi Platinum Stars.
