THE Tsholotsho Rural District Council has shortlisted eight candidates for the local authority’s Chief Executive Officer’s position.
However, the shortlist, which has been circulating on social media since last week has been met with mixed feelings among some councillors, who claim some of the candidates were not suitable for the position and some candidates with vast experience in local governance were left out in controversial circumstances.
Tsholotsho RDC has been operating without a substantive CEO since it parted ways with Mr Themba Moyo early this year. Tsholotsho RDC chairperson Councillor Esau Siwela said they were looking forward to holding interviews to choose the appropriate candidate.
“We have publicly released the shortlisted names of the candidates and we are working on setting up the interviews to be held next week. The Tsholotsho RDC along side with the Human Resources, the administration and the District Administrator will sit and set the dates for the interviews, then we will write to the people inviting them for interviews,” said Clr Siwela.
He said concerns being raised about some of the candidates being politically orchestrated were baseless.
“We do not know who applied whether the person is a politician or not. At the end the application and the qualifications will be used to elect the new CEO. Therefore, we want everything to be transparent and also the New Dispensation does not allow criminal behaviour that is why everything will be done on the clear. We are not going to rely on what is circulating on social media because those platforms have a way twisting and favouring, on what people want to hear,” said Clr Siwela.
According to the list on social media, among those shortlisted is Munutewell Ncube, a former CEO of Tsholotsho and losing MDC candidate for Tsholotsho South in the 2013 election, Nkululeko Sibanda, a former District Administrator at Insiza RDC, acting Tsholotsho RDC CEO Nkululeko Sibanda. Others are Victor Mpofu, Prosper Msindazi Dlodlo, Pios Ncube, Sibangiso Ndlovu (only female candidate), Jusa Zacharia and Sikhumbuzo Moyo.
“Some people who applied were left out of the shortlist because they are not wanted by some influential people at council even though they qualify and can do the job. If you look at that list, there are some people with no experience or qualification at local governance and you wonder how they made it into the shortlist. There is too much happening behind the scenes as some influential people want to make sure their preferred candidate gets the job, that is why some of those who qualify were not included in the list to make it easy for their preferred horse to win while competing with unqualified and inexperienced candidates,” a source said.
