A 25-YEAR-OLD woman from Tsholotsho was caught stark naked in the wee hours of the morning in Nyamandlovu in a suspected case of witchcraft. Villagers told The Chronicle on Wednesday they suspected Glitter Sibanda was a witch after she allegedly travelled about 110 kilometres in three hours on foot.
She told villagers she left Mathe Village in Tsholotsho at around midnight on Monday and Mhlamuli Moyo found her naked at his homestead in Nyamandlovu three hours later.
Moyo said his dogs started barking non-stop at around 3AM on Tuesday, prompting him to go outside his bedroom to check.
“I got the shock of my life when I found a naked woman in the middle of my yard. The woman just stood there and stared at me, showing no signs of embarrassment. She had a black dog with her,” said Moyo.
He said he woke up his family who then called out the rest of the neighbours to witness the “shocking incident.”
“The woman said she woke up at around midnight at her home in Tsholotsho to go outside to the bush to relieve herself and found herself at my homestead. She said she blacked out and had no idea how she got to Nyamandlovu,” Moyo said.
An assistant village head, Onese Ngwenya, said Sibanda was a witch.
“On Tuesday, she answered all our questions but funny enough today she’s pretending to be confused or rather mentally disturbed. The woman travelled more than 110km from where she lives and we’re surprised how she did it in less than three hours,” said Ngwenya.
Onese said he called his friend, Jabulani Ngwenya, who comes from Mathe Village and he confirmed that he knew Sibanda.
“Ngwenya said he would notify her family to come pick her up. He said he didn’t know much about the girl except that she comes from Mathe village and the fact that she was a normal woman,” said Onese.
Sibanda appeared confused when she spoke to The Chronicle.
She said: “I don’t know how I got to this home and the police station but I think my husband brought me here so that I cover up for his crimes.”
Sibanda said she didn’t mind being detained at the police station because she knew her husband would come and fetch her.
Villagers said as police led Sibanda away, she kept asking for her dog which had disappeared.
“She sent shivers down my spine when she said if villagers didn’t produce her dog, one of us would change into a dog,” said a villager who declined to be named.
