PROMISING sprinter Methembe Tshuma went under the doctor’s knife on Monday to repair damage to his femur bone.
The 100 and 200m runner broke the bone in a freak accident at the sound of the gun as he false started in the 200m semi finals at the African Senior Championships.
As the starter buzzed for a false start, Tshuma tumbled to the ground after a few metres and lay in agony forcing medical teams to rush to him.
He was rushed to the hospital on Saturday and surgery was on Monday.
The athletics body confirmed that the operation had gone well.
On Sunday at the University of Ghana Stadium, National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe president declared that they will support Tshuma all the way.
The association asked team physiotherapist Christine Mutangadura to stay behind and assist the athlete recover.
Tshuma reached the semi-finals of the 100 and 200m.
