THREE thugs robbed congregants of their cellphones while they were praying. It’s reported that after robbing congregants, tsotsis demanded keys to the church and it is believed they wanted to lock believers inside the church.
Pastor Elias Moreroa of Le’tlhabile Word of Life Ministries in Mmakau, North West, South Africa told Daily Sun that thugs robbed almost 16 congregants at gunpoint last Wednesday, at around 6.55pm. He said they were relieved to talk about it now as they feared the robbers could return.
“We pray every Wednesday. And when we were about to finish praying at 7 pm, thugs pounced on us. They demanded keys to the church, and congregants told them the pastor was the one who had the keys. I suspect they wanted to lock them inside the church,” he said.
Pastor Moreroa said no one was injured and is aware of cell phones that were stolen from them.
“Many congregants were traumatised, and it was the first time for them to go through such.”
He said the church was founded in 2009 and only experienced two break-in incidents in which speakers were stolen. Moreroa said on Sunday, during the church service, he allowed them to talk about the incident.
“To me, it looks like they have overcome fear of the incident.” The pastor said it’s shocking that people don’t fear God.
“Thugs won’t stop us from doing God’s work. We’ll continue to pray, and more challenges will continue coming.”
North West Police Spokeswoman Lieutenant-Colonel Amanda Funani confirmed the incident.
“We’re investigating a case of armed robbery after three unknown suspects entered a church at Naledi Section and robbed congregants of an undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones. The suspects fled the scene on foot. No one was injured. Police are investigating.” (Source: www.snl24.com/)
