FORMER South Africa Banyana Banyana football star Portia Modise was hijacked.
The former footballer and author reported being a victim of crime after criminals hijacked her blue VW Golf with a Gauteng number plate at her home in White City, Soweto.
The Soweto-born star expressed her distress, stating she was not okay following the incident. It occurred as she was leaving her home and was approached by five young men who pointed firearms at her. The 41-year-old footballer shared a video discussing the incident.
“I’m not okay, guys. I need your help to get my car back,” she said.
She urged anyone who comes across her car to alert her immediately.
“Please, guys, I didn’t sleep at all. My car was taken by young guys who pointed firearms at me,” she added.
Despite the ordeal, Portia expressed relief at still being alive. She emphasised that anyone who sees the car should recognize it as hers. She appealed for everyone’s help to assist in locating her car. When Daily Sun tried to contact her for comments, her phone was off.
Lieutenant-Colonel Mavela Masondo informed Daily Sun that the police are actively searching for the suspects after the former Banyana Banyana player was allegedly hijacked in Soweto.
“The police are on the lookout for the suspects and the car after the former Banyana Banyana soccer player was hijacked in White City, Soweto, on the evening of Saturday, 06 July 2024. It is reported that the victim was driving out of the yard when she noticed five males in front of the gate,” he explained.”
“She asked the suspects to move so that she could drive past. It was then that she was pointed with firearms and hijacked,” he added.
Masondo noted that two of the suspects drove away with the victim’s VW Golf 5, while the other three escaped in a silver VW Polo. He confirmed that the victim was also robbed of her cellphone, but no shots were fired. The police’s search for the suspects and the car is ongoing. (www.snl24.com)
