MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has lashed out at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission for causing the arrest of their deputy chairperson Mr Morgan Komichi and for allegedly coming up with new rules two days before the harmonised elections.Speaking at a rally at Chibuku Stadium in Chitungwiza yesterday, Mr Tsvangirai said Zec was supposed to investigate where the ballot paper which was discovered in a bin came from and not arrest their official.
“I have given Zec until tomorrow to prove that they are an independent non-partisan body which will discharge its responsibilities with integrity. Komichi was given a ballot paper which was found in a bin and he went with it to Zec to show them and question them on how it ended in a bin.
“Instead of investigating how that ballot paper ended in a bin they caused his arrest. I take great exception to such behaviour because it is not in sync with the responsibility of an independent body,” he said.
He also alleged that Zec had changed its laws to the effect that counting is not to be done at polling stations, but ballot papers would be carried for counting at one centre .
He said his party would not allow any ballot to be moved from any polling station until counting was done in the polling station.
Mr Tsvangirai who also complained that he had not been presented with a voters roll two days before said, he would brief all observer groups that they have until today to correct their behaviour adding that Zec should rectify all the alleged irregularities.
He also said the money sourced by Justice and Legal Affairs Minister Patrick Chinamasa for elections came from the diamonds, warning that the Zanu PF officials will account for the proceeds from diamonds when he is elected into power.
