MORGAN Tsvangirai is “as good as mad” for refusing to accept his crushing election defeat on 31 July, President Mugabe said yesterday. Cde Mugabe said the MDC-T leader was “running to London” and making futile trips to a famous Nigerian prophet seeking prayers in the vain hope of discrediting Zanu-PF’s victory, which was endorsed by the African Union and Sadc.

“We won elections, now Mr Tsvangirai is running around saying he was cheated. I don’t think he is normal. He is as good as mad,” Cde Mugabe told hundreds of people who came to meet him at the Catholic-run Sacred Heart Girls High School which is under construction in Umzingwane District.

President Mugabe said in the whole world, only Mr Tsvangirai, Britain and the United States thought Zanu-PF had not won fairly.
To laughter, President Mugabe added: “He is running to London and has been to TB Joshua seeking prayers.

“But you cannot pray for a person who is bent on wrong-doing. He (Tsvangirai) knows he lost but says we stole the vote. Nxa umuntu ekhuluma amanga anjalo (if someone tells such lies) and goes to the pastor to say pray for me, God will not listen to such a prayer.
“You know you are telling a lie and you kneel down asking God to give you blessings. Unless you know how to be honest, truthful and frank and admit your own mistakes, God will not listen to you. We also pray for our own mistakes. We won and the whole world knows that except the British and the United States who tell lies like Tsvangirai.”

President Mugabe said Zanu-PF’s sweeping victory in Matabeleland South was a surprise for him and paid tribute to the people from the province for rallying behind the party of independence.

Zanu-PF won all 13 contested seats in the province.
“I note we have Chiefs Sigola and Gwebu amongst us and I want you to relay this message ebantwini (to the people). That is the message of congratulations for a sweeping victory that the people of Matabeleland South gave us.

“You won all the seats and it came to us as a real, pleasant surprise. Over the years, we were used to getting three or four seats in Matabeleland South but this time it was different.

“This shows that the people here are united. Unity will always take us far and we always appeal to you, ukubambana yinto enkulu (unity is an important thing).

“You were united in support of the party that brought independence and freedom to the country, a party that is fighting to give people their heritage, the land and its resources.”

President Mugabe said he was aware of the food shortages, especially in the southern parts of the country and assured the people that the Government would provide food to all those who need it to avert starvation.

He urged farmers to jealously guard the land they acquired under the land reform programme and to utilise it productively to improve the food situation in the country.

The new Zanu-PF government has already availed inputs to the farming community in all the provinces and President Mugabe challenged the farmers to start planting.
