A full house is expected at the Aquatic Complex in Chitungwiza on December 6 when two of Zimbabwe’s high flying musicians, Oliver Mtukudzi and Alick Macheso, stage a gig in the town.
The two are not strangers, having shared the stage for more than a decade now, though at different venues and in different circumstances.
In all these encounters, the two have often given their best performances, and the crowds just love these collaborations.
Still fresh from their Masvingo gig in which the duo serenaded music lovers, this time they will be joined by contemporary musician Jah Prayzah and upcoming dendera crooner Douglas Chimbetu in what promises to be an explosive affair.
The beauty about this show is that it would be the first show pitting four good musicians to be held in Chitungwiza in the last few months, following a dry spell, as most gigs were being held in Harare, and other environs. The morale is high among music fans, who are making preparations to partake in fun and musical festivity that will characterise the night, spilling over into the next morning. Fans will enjoy the best of both worlds, what with katekwe, contemporary beat, dendera and sungura — all under one roof.
For those fans, who have heard so much and have not seen Douglas staging a live gig, the December 6 show, will be provide an opportunity to watch him play some of his late uncle Simon’s songs, that one would be forgiven to think that it is the late legend serenading fans.
Those who love contemporary music will certainly fall in love with Jah Prayzah’s music, especially when he plays hits like “Machembere”, “Ngoda” and the classic “Sungano”, which gave him the fame that he is now enjoying today.
Mtukudzi will also serenade fans with some of his timeless hits, and some of his up-tempo tunes that include “Tozeza” and “Madiro”.
Mtukudzi’s Black Spirits, which has undergone some radical changes, currently features an all-male line-up.
As has become the norm, the superstar always makes it a point to avoid songs with a heavy female influence where Namatayi Chipanga previously filled in. Tuku is likely to keep his legion of fans on their feet with songs such as “Ziwere” and “Watitsvata” often called “Pata Pata” among other popular hits.
On the other hand, king of sungura Macheso promises a great show with hits such as “Tafadzwa”, “Macharangwanda” and “Shedia” among others.
The show that is organised by Simmad Entertainment has become an annual event, having started off as a small affair a few years ago.
