ORGANISERS of the Oliver Mtukudzi Memorial Half Marathon say the event seeks to celebrate life, Ubuntu and love.
Tuku died on January 23 2019 after losing his battle against diabetes.
He was declared a national hero and was buried at his Madziwa homestead in Mashonaland Central.
After his death, several festivities were being held to celebrate his legacy.
The family has come up with an annual memorial half marathon to remember their icon on January 21.
Dubbed “Handei KwaTuku”, this year’s edition will see runners participating in three races – 21 kilometres, 10 kilometres and 5 kilometres.
Event coordinator, Faith Kadzura, said they were ready to celebrate Tuku’s legacy in style.
“The event starts at 5 am and ends at 11 am.
“We do expect patrons and participants to be there on time and have fun with others.
“Registration is still US$20 with race packs on January 20. Breakfast and lunch will be available. Participants can come along with their families to cheer them on,” she said.
The coordinator has assured participants of a fun-filled day at Pakare Paye on January 21.
“After the marathon, which ends at 11 am, participants will just chill listening to good vibes from live bands till late afternoon.
“The Black Spirits, which used to back the late Tuku, will perform after the event, as we take fans down memory lane.
“Several artists, who passed through Tuku’s tutelage, will also grace the event aimed at honouring the legacy of our icon.”
