Superstar Oliver Mtukudzi and the Black Spirits tickled the crowd at Misty’s Bar in Newlands last weekend when he performed songs from his new and old albums.
The musician, who recently returned from an international tour, did well at his homecoming party.
Songs like “Mukombe Wemvura”, “Zvinoita Tikudzwe” and “Dzinga Hwema”, among others from the new album, excited fans while the old tracks that were crowd favourites included “Watitsvata”, “Raki”, “Sarawoga”, “Rudaviro” and “Chinhabwe”.
He performed for three hours.
The 62-year-old music legend put on an energetic show, which showed that he had recovered from a health problem that led to the cancellation of his Bulawayo show recently.
The veteran musician, who wore a black-brown shirt with a matching hat, took to the stage to wild cheers from the big crowd which had come for his show.
The internationally-acclaimed artiste delivered a show full of energy and class that attracted endless applause.
Chikomborero Chatindiara, a reveller, was impressed by Tuku’s polished stagecraft.
“I am happy with what was displayed by Samanyanga (Tuku’s totem).
“He is still full of life. I am surprised by detractors who always say what they don’t even know, let alone attend his shows.
“The legendary musician is still in the game because of loyalty and humility.
“He still knows how to do it. Although this event was a more elegant and upmarket style, he still maintained his standard,” he said.
