THE late national hero, Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi, was an icon whose music has charmed a local gospel artist.

Ray Bande took worshipers down the memory lane by playing Tuku songs ‘‘Todii’’ and ‘‘Munondipasa Manyemwe’’ at an all-night night prayer in Glen View on Friday.

While most gospel fans do not believe in secular music, Bande convinced worshipers that it is the message which matters.

“I do not care what people say and gossip about me handikendenge,” said Bande.

“Allow me to play these songs saturated with a life-changing message,” he said before playing Todii. In the song, Tuku appeals to people to find ways in fighting diseases which have claimed many lives across the globe.

Bande was among artists who led praise and worship at Apostle Sambo’s prayer meeting.
