ZIMBABWE’S musicians still trek to Britain as attested by the number of artistes who have toured that country to stage live shows. Since the beginning of this year more than 15 local musicians have staged live shows in the United Kingdom with some of them going back two or more times.
Superstar Oliver Mtukudzi alongside the dendera heir Suluman Chimbetu and man of the moment Jah Prayzah are set to tour United Kingdom for Zim’s Finest Live in Concert on October 25 and 26.
This will probably be the second or third time that the trio have been to the UK this year, although at different times and venues. Due to public demand, this time the three are set to perform live in London at The Royal Regency and in Leicester and at Maher Centre the following day.
The gig, which is organised by Y2K Promotions, is meant to recognise these musicians who are tirelessly working in the music industry.
Dubbed “the Greatest Hits Tour”, the tour has all the ingredients of a thriller and there is no better combination than three of Zimbabwe’s most accomplished artistes of our time.
Culture Director of Y2K Alex Mharapara said they were glad to host these prominent musicians is it will be a chance to share Zimbabwean culture and values through music.
This will see three Zimbabwe’s best artistes performing together for the first time abroad especially the two inseparables — Sulu and Jah Prayzah.
There is no doubt this will be a rare treat for their fans in United Kingdom as the three musicians have collaborated in different projects and will certainly take the UK tour as an opportunity to fine-tune their music while looking at the possibility of working together in future.
Sulu and Tuku collaborated on the hit “Kwedu” which received rave reviews in both local and regional media.
On the other hand, Sulu and Jah Prayzah will have their fans dancing to the singalong track “Sean Timba” popularly known as “Batai Munhu”, which has become anthemic.
Mtukudzi and Jah Prayzah also worked together on the song “Sisiriya”, off his latest album “Tsviriyo”. To Tuku and The Black spirits, this show comes just after his return from a two-month international show that saw him performing in the United States, Canada and in the Far East.
